Course Overview

In the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) stands as a benchmark for companies aiming to secure contracts with the Department of Defense (DoD). The CMMC Certification Training course is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the CMMC framework, ensuring that their organizations are both compliant and competitive in the defense industry.

  • Tools, Languages and Frameworks Used
  • This comprehensive training program dives deep into the CMMC model, covering all levels of cybersecurity maturity from basic cyber hygiene to advanced. Participants will learn the ins and outs of the CMMC domains, processes, and practices, with a focus on understanding how to assess their organization's current cybersecurity posture and identify areas for improvement.
  • Course Delivery Model
  • The CMMC Certification Training is delivered through a blend of instructional methods, including Lectures and presentations by industry experts, Interactive discussions and Q&A sessions to deepen understanding, hands-on exercises and case studies to apply concepts in real-world scenarios, Access to resources and tools for further learning and application.

Why CMMC

Go Anywhere

As a Certified CMMC Assessor, you can work with any C3PAO conducting Level 2 assessments across the Defense Industrial Base. With 350,000+ contractors requiring third-party assessments, demand for qualified assessors spans every sector touching DoD contracts — from aerospace and defense manufacturing to IT services and logistics.

Enables You

The CCA credential authorizes you to lead and participate in formal CMMC Level 2 assessments. You'll evaluate security implementations, interview key personnel, review evidence artifacts, and determine whether organizations meet the 110 NIST 800-171 practices required to handle Controlled Unclassified Information.

  • CMMC certification enables professionals to work on contracts that require compliance with Department of Defense cybersecurity regulations, thus opening up more opportunities in the defense sector.
  • It equips individuals with a thorough understanding of cybersecurity practices and standards, allowing them to implement and manage comprehensive security measures effectively.
  • Certified professionals are better prepared to address and mitigate cyber threats, thereby enhancing their ability to protect sensitive information and maintain secure cyber environments.
Better Pay

CMMC assessors command premium rates as independent contractors or C3PAO team members. The shift from self-attestation to mandatory third-party assessments has created a supply gap — qualified assessors are scarce relative to the hundreds of thousands of organizations that will need formal certification.

Achievement

Earning your CCA demonstrates mastery of both the CMMC standard and assessment methodology. You'll join an elite group authorized by the Cyber AB ecosystem to safeguard the defense supply chain — a credential backed by hands-on simulation experience through our CMMC Simulator Platform.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

To pursue CCA certification, you must first hold an active CCP certification. The Cyber AB has established the following requirements:

  1. Hold an active Certified CMMC Professional (CCP) certification.
  2. At least three (3) years of cybersecurity experience.
  3. At least one (1) year of assessment or audit experience.
  4. Hold at least one baseline certification aligned to the DoD 8140.3 Career Pathway 612 (Security Control Assessor) at the Intermediate or Advanced level. Qualifying certifications include CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+, CISSP, CISA, CISM, CASP+/SecurityX, GSEC, GSNA, and others listed at public.cyber.mil.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must achieve a favorable Tier 3 suitability determination from DoD (via DCMA). This process takes approximately 2–6 months.
  7. Prior to registering for this class, you must apply through ISACA (the authorized CAICO) and remain in good standing. CCA registration fee is $50 and the exam fee is $350. Divergence is not involved in this step.

The CCP is the foundational credential demonstrating CMMC knowledge. As a CCP with a favorable Tier 3 determination, you can participate on Level 2 assessment teams but can only verify Level 1 practices and cannot make final determinations. The CCA authorizes you to fully assess Level 2 requirements and make compliance determinations on behalf of a C3PAO.

A CCA works as part of a C3PAO assessment team conducting formal Level 2 CMMC assessments for Organizations Seeking Certification (OSCs) in the Defense Industrial Base. This includes scoping assessment boundaries, interviewing organizational personnel, reviewing evidence artifacts, evaluating implementation of 110 NIST 800-171 practices, and contributing to compliance determinations. Important: CCAs who have participated in any capacity helping an organization prepare for CMMC cannot serve on the assessment team for that same organization.

A Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO) is an organization authorized by the Cyber AB to conduct formal CMMC assessments. C3PAOs employ CCAs and Lead CCAs to perform assessments of defense contractors. Becoming a C3PAO requires a separate organizational application, Experian financial review, DCSA FOCI review, and a CMMC Level 2 assessment by DCMA DIBCAC.

You need at least one certification from the DoD 8140.3 Career Pathway 612 list. Intermediate-level options include CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Cloud+, CompTIA PenTest+, CompTIA CASP+/SecurityX, (ISC)2 CGRC/CAP, GIAC GSEC, and GIAC GCSA. Advanced-level options include (ISC)2 CISSP, CISSP-ISSEP, ISACA CISA, ISACA CISM, CompTIA CySA+, GIAC GSLC, GIAC GSNA, and EC-Council CCISO.

Our CMMC Simulator Platform is a hands-on practice environment exclusive to Divergence Academy students. You'll run mock assessments against realistic fictional defense contractors — practicing interviews with key personnel, requesting and evaluating evidence, scoping boundaries, and making assessment determinations. It builds the assessor judgment you need before sitting for the CCA exam or stepping into your first real engagement.

Cohort-based virtual live training with instructor-led sessions. You learn alongside peers in real-time, not through self-paced video. Includes continued access to the CMMC Simulator Platform for practice outside of class.

Divergence Academy charges tuition for the CCA training course. Separately, the Cyber AB/ISACA ecosystem requires a $50 CCA registration fee and a $350 exam fee. Annual CCA renewal is $500. All Cyber AB fees are paid directly to ISACA — Divergence is not involved in that process.

You can still take this course to build deep CMMC assessment knowledge — training and exam are separate steps. Many professionals take the course to strengthen their expertise even if they aren't ready to sit for the exam. If you want to pursue full CCA certification later, you'll need an active CCP, three years of cybersecurity experience, one year of assessment or audit experience, and a qualifying DoD 8140.3 certification. The Cyber AB also offers a Registered Practitioner (RP) path for those looking to build CMMC knowledge without pursuing the full assessor track.
